Eiger or PT Eigerindo Multi Produk Industri is a company and brand originating from Indonesia, which produces clothing and natural recreation equipment. This company produces products for mountaineering, camping, and rock climbing activities such as bags and jackets. The company was founded by Ronny Lukito in the 1990s. The first Eiger store opened in 1994 in Cihampelas, Bandung. The name Eiger comes from the name of a mountain in the Swiss Alpen.

Background

Eiger’s goal is to be the most preferred adventure partner for its customers, and therefore they’re continuously improving their customer shopping experience both online and offline. Last year, Eiger launched a new online shopping site at https://eigeradventure.com/ and this year they want to create a mobile app.

Business Objective

To acquire more customers for Eiger’s loyalty program.

Experience Objective

This mobile app has to be easy to use, enjoyable, and gives a better shopping experience than the current website https://eigeradventure.com/

Empathize

At this stage, I will recognize and understand the wants, needs, and goals of users when using this application.

I created a user persona from an Eiger product customer. Personas describe the average user, their demographics, behavior, goals, and desires. It helps me to see the end-to-end experience from a broad perspective.

User Persona

Define

The second stage is Define, which is defining the problem. At this Define stage, I will collect all the information that has been obtained from the previous stage and then make observations to find out what users need. In the previous stage, I encountered several problems experienced by customers from Eiger such as:

  1. There is no product-specific mobile application from Eiger
  2. It is difficult for users to get Eiger products with 100% genuine guarantee
  3. There is no mobile application to make it easier for users to buy Eiger products anywhere and anytime without having to go to the official Eiger store

Ideate

The third stage is Ideate. After understanding what the user’s problem is and analyzing the information, it is time to come up with solution ideas that can be used to address the various problems that have been defined. At this stage, I will show the results of making a User Interface design that will display the appearance of the application that will be developed later.

Here are some screens I designed for the Eiger E-Commerce Mobile App. I focus on making the interface easy for users to understand. Above all, I try to emphasize minimalism and usability in the design which will be a solution to make it easier for users to use it:

Onboarding, Login, and Registration

This is the Onboarding, login, and account registration screen for the app. users can login and register with email, in the registration section there is an OTP request sent to the user’s email address which functions as security in the

Homescreen

This is a homescreen, on the home screen the user can see products that are currently hot items, recommended products according to the topics and interests selected by the user when registering an account, which serves to make it easier for users to get the products they want, and there is also a section latest products to see the latest products from Eiger.

Product

On the following screen, the user can search and select the desired product by category, selecting the type of product variant. There is also product information, description, and reviews on the product detail page.

Shopping Cart and Checkout

On the shopping cart screen, there will be products if the user adds one or more products to buy later. there is a promo screen, users can see available promos, detailed descriptions of promos, and users can add these promos to the shopping cart to get promotional value on their purchases. There is also a checkout screen, On this screen, users can select the payment method and shipping courier for their order.

In this section, users can edit their profile, view the transaction section, set and enter a referral code, add and change addresses, and there is also an info & help menu for various purposes.

Prototype

I am prototyping with Figma App. Prototyping in Figma is super easy and powerful. The results are visible to anyone with the prototype sharing link

Testing

At this last stage, testing will be carried out. During this testing process, we will see how our target user interacts with the prototype we created earlier. In addition, the testing phase will also generate valuable feedback to improve product performance.

At this testing stage, I tried it by sharing the prototype link to my friends, and the results were quite satisfactory, here are some feedbacks: 

  • “The application is very easy and simple to use, the steps are quite clear and don’t take much time” 
  • “There is a menu of topics and interests when registering an account which will make it easier for me to find the right product on the recommended product menu on the homescreen” 
  • “The placement of some components is neat and easy to understand”

Final Conclusion

The Design Thinking process has an important role to ensure that the products we design can meet the needs of our target users. Thus, of course, to successfully reach the targeted market, our company will be more wide open.

From the validation results that have been carried out, the designs made make it easy for users to be able to get original products from Eiger. But I still have a lot to develop and improve in terms of UI/UX design.
